Refuge

February 8, 2015  Saturday
2.5 miles

Leslie and Rudy picked us up this morning around 10:30 for our excursion to Punta Mita.  We arrived in time to have lunch at a lovely beachside restaurant.

Cafe des Artistes is the primo restaurant in PV and the one in Punta Mita is run by the same people.

After a lingering lunch, we spent some time with Xoco's parents who live in Punta Mita.

Need anything?

That was the day and although this beach and coastline is lovely, we are perfectly content with our life at Las Moras and around Puerto Vallarta.  We realize that we don't need seclusion and pristine beaches at this moment. We have that at home and appreciate it constantly.

Here, we can participate as observers in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and then retreat to the tranquility of Las Moras.  Rather perfect!

So....after Leslie and Rudy dropped us off at our house, we had a simple dinner here and then felt compelled to walk!!  So we went down the road to the big plaza where Walmart and the Liverpool Mall are and wandered through the national market that comes to PV every February.  They set up in the Walmart parking lot with rows and rows of foods and crafts from all around Mexico, particularly from Oaxaca and Chiapas.  We love the cheese and the coffee!!

Again, being able to walk everywhere is a delight even if we inhale exhaust fumes and are bombarded with loud music!

I visited with the family across the street tonight.  Saturday nights are family nights; people gather, children play.  The children were so excited about their cupcakes with sprinkles on them and wanted to share them with me.  The little boy was dressed as batman and climbing the tree.  They have a little girl with blond Hazel-like curls.  She's almost 4 and I told them that our "nieta" would be coming in about a week!

We continue to enjoy the friendliness of the people.  It's a quality I so appreciate.  The quick smile, the "hola", buenas noches.  There's a joyousness to life here.  Oversimplification I'm sure.  But I'll take the feeling.

Tonight as we were walking back home I was reminded of living in New York as a young girl.  I walked.  If I took public transportation, then I walked from the bus or train stop to my house.  I walked to my friends' house.  I walked to school.  It just was the way.  Tonight, even at 9PM, the streets are bustling with people.  No sense of danger.

Again, there's something that I relish about living in another culture.  For the time being.

I'll be excited to go home as well and welcome Spring.

Feeling very grateful tonight.

The land where Volkswagens live forever

February 8, 2015

There are so many VW bugs and vans here!  Old ones.  Vintage types.  And people love them!

Short entry today.  We Skyped with the Seattle clan and then packed up our chairs and umbrella and books and walked to the beach.  Food was available at the hotel de Toro where we had been before.  It was divine.  Shady and warm with calm waters.

We walked home around 5Pm

Then I didn't feel well at all. No appetite, body aches and nerve sensitivity.

4 episodes of Orange is the New Black.  And now bed. Feeling a bit better.  A little too much sun?

Who knows?
