One more day....

Saturday, January 24th

5 mile walk

Copied from an email to Sue:

I awakened so early I am already sleepy.  Off to the Farmer’s Market in PV with Leslie and Rudy via their old VW bus.

Then the plan is to go to the beach and frolic around, head back and then no other plans.  I like this so far.

Leslie and Rudy are spending more and more time here.  They’ve rented their Olympia home VRBO and it’s quite successfully bringing in the dough.  They’ll make some return trips to NW in May and in the summer.  They have lived in Mexico most of their adult lives (at least Leslie has) so this is home.  Economically it makes a lot of sense.  Massages:  $35.00 for 1 1/2 hours.  Cheap maid service.  And so on.

Yes, it is a gated community.  80 -90 % middle class Mexicans and then expats from Canada and the US.  Kids running around, swimming, biking, etc.  The guards are very friendly.  More like 24 hour security; not police or federales with guns.  They check vehicles coming in and then just wander along with the ever present gardeners.  Not a power tool in sight.  CC could have this place whipped into shape in one day but then the laborers would be out of work and it would be noisy.  Rakes and shovels and sledge hammers do the work.

Note to future self:
It is very warm and tropical here.  No need for many clothing items.  No need for evening wraps.  Very casual attire is always acceptable.  One could pack minimally and fill in at Walmart!

After a serene afternoon nap, we walked ourselves to the ocean, entering along the alleyway by Soriana's.

The town is a blaze with Super Bowl fever.

Little did we know it was happy hour when we stopped for a beverage-2 for one!  The place was crowded.  Expats abound. Very friendly folks, many knowing each other for 25+ years.  Still, I'm glad we can dip into this culture and then head back to Las Moras where we have anonymity and diversity.

The soft warmth of the sunset compelled me to declare: winter is pointless.

Home now for the evening.  Taxi driver (rooting for the Patriots) said that El Torito is the place to go to watch the game next Sunday.

Note: Soriana's had the good scent less eco friendly laundry soap.  Cases of Negro Modelo. Low cal ice cream bars.
