Superbowl Sunday

Superbowl Sunday!
8 + miles walking.

Today we pass time until 5:30 when we hope to be able to watch the Seattle Seahawks become the Champions for two years in a row!

In our attempt to walk early in the day before the heat becomes too oppressive, we left about 8:30 and walked to the trail, walking first towards the ocean, turning around and walking back towards Pitillial, passing all the Sunday families on outings as well as numerous joggers, locals and snowbirds combined.

We recalled a restaurant we had gone to last year on one of these walks so we headed there once again.  They didn't disappoint.  After that we realized we were close to Las Adelitas, the restaurant that is notorious for breakfast, a la Mexicana.  Getting a good sense of the geography, we decided to try to find it, bumping into Costco and another restaurant with long Sunday out for breakfast lines, right across the street from Costco.  We are well oriented now.  We headed West, back to the trail and to the boulevard in front of the grand hotels.  It closes down the center lanes on Sundays for pedestrians and cyclists until noon so we arrived in time for the last 10 minutes!

About a mile away from Liverpool, the mall by Walmart by now, we continued in that direction with a new mission:  pillows to bring home from the department store there.  Relaxation ensued with water and comfy chairs at Starbucks.  7 miles walked by this time.  We bought 5 pillows.  By now it was raining quite considerably so we had the pillows bagged and covered and found our way home.

We had some lunch, set up Apple tV and Slingbox and prepared for the Big Event.  So was everyone else and the rain was playing havoc with the connectivity.  4:30 PM.  1 hour to game time.  What to do.  The reception was sketchy, bad picture, intermittent sound.  Decision made:  jump in a taxi and head to a sports bar.  But where?  How could we get in?  The guards at Las Moras suggested the Outback.   Taxi driver said EL Torito en el Centro.  This is the second vote for El Torito.  Ok.  Vamanos!

Lines are long.  No room at the Inn.

What ever shall we do?  Time is of the essence.  To coin some phrases.  The seƱor at el Torito points next door.  To the Italian Restaurante!  off we go.  Upstairs.  3 TVs.  Lots of empty tables.  Arugula salads, pizzas and vino and of course Negro Modelo.  We can stay for the entire game.  Hooray.  It is raining gatos y perros outside.  We have a table by the open air.  Busses pass by below.  Puddles get bigger and bigger.

Table next to us has two guys, one from Denver and the other from TUMWATER!!  He used to own the Hawk's Prairie Automotive.  Six degrees of separation.  And they are of course Seahawks fans!

As opposed to the table by them who are Patriotis fans.  Loud ones!!  But all is fun.  Until the final play of course.

This is a mostly gay bar.  PV is a very gay friendly town.  So Craig had no compunctions about shouting.  No worries about starting fights!!  Everyone was happy and took the game in spirit.

How did I become such a football nut?  I'm really an imposter who doesn't hardly understand the game.  But I am caught up in the spirit and I do now appreciate the finesse, the grace, and the bestiality of the game.

And that ends the day.

Poor Miguel!
